WHAT IS THE PROCESS OF AN ADHD ASSESSMENT?
Step 1: (20 minutes)
Free Consultation Call: we chat briefly about your concerns, the assessment process, and we set a meeting time(s)
Before the first session, we will send you a background questionnaire to complete prior to your assessment.
Step 2: (50 minutes)
Intake Interview: we review your concerns in depth, the history of your symptoms, and organize the assessment.
Step 3: (50 minutes)
Rating forms are completed at home: These forms include a behaviour/mental health screener, attention rating forms, and executive functioning rating forms for you and an observer (i.e., someone who knows you well) to complete. Past school reports and historical information will also be reviewed (if available). After all forms have been completed, they will be scored and interpreted by your psychologist in preparation for the diagnostic interview.
Step 4: (50 minutes)
Diagnostic Interview: No assessment should rely on ratings alone, and it’s important to consider other contributors to attention challenges (e.g., anxiety). In the diagnostic interview, we explore your behaviours and their impact on your life, and determine if they are symptoms of ADHD or something else. If ADHD fits, a diagnosis is typically communicated by the end of this session.
Step 5: (0-120 minutes)
This step is optional, and it depends on your needs for the ADHD assessment. We will provide a diagnosis letter (if appropriate) that can be shared with your physician at no charge. A brief report with recommendations, accommodations, and strategies is also an option, and this is helpful for people who want to explore recommended strategies, and/or request learning and work accommodations.
